MEMBERSHIP FEE Existing members $100 New members: $200 includes tax (One time initiation fee $100) plus membership fee Membership period Jan. 1, 2020 through Dec. 31, 2020 ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY Because voluntary participation in recreational sports involves physical activity with risk of personal injury or damage to property, it is the policy of Pickleball University Inc. of Vero that all participants voluntarily and knowingly assume all risks associated with physical activity including, but not limited to, claims relating to the conditions of courts used by Pickleball University Inc.. I waive and release Pickleball University Inc., it’s agents, Directors, Members, and volunteers from all claims for personal injury or death arising from my participation in the activities of Pickleball University Inc. I understand that I am voluntarily participating in recreational activities with Pickleball University Inc. of Vero for my own personal benefit. I assume responsibility for all risks involved in aforementioned activities that have inherent dangers and hazards that no amount of care, caution, instruction, or expertise can eliminate. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Pickleball University Inc. of Vero, its board of directors, members, and volunteers; the City of Vero Beach, Vero Beach Recreation District, its trustees, officers, employees and agents from any liability arising from or proximately caused by my participation in these activities. Code of Conduct Treat all players with courtesy and respect • Wear clothing that is inoffensive and suitable for playing sports • When entering the facility, avoid disrupting games that are in progress • Avoid the use of profanity on or near the courts • Do not make inappropriate personal comments to or about other players • Do not bully, harass or intimidate any member • Return the ball to an opponent by hitting it to them over the net, ideally on one bounce • Never kick a ball. It slows play, can interfere with other games, and is not courteous • Call “ball” when the ball from your game enters or goes behind an adjacent court that is occupied, then wait for it to be returned • In order to return a shot a player may enter onto an adjacent court but should do so as safely and briefly as possible, using good judgment • Do not congregate by courts that will interfere with play on courts or safety of players Facility and Equipment • Help to keep the courts and sitting areas as clean as possible • All gym bags, drinks etc, place underneath the benches • Treat the balls, net, and paddles carefully – they are all susceptible to damage • Place squeegee and roller in proper area after cleaning the courts of water • Know and follow the rules of the game • Players are expected to make all of the line calls on their side of the court • If a team cannot decide on a line call then the benefit always goes to the opponent • Be prepared to have your group ready to play when your group is up next • If only two paddles are ahead of you feel free to add your paddles Know and follow the rules of the game • Players are expected to make all of the line calls on their side of the court • If a team cannot decide on a line call then the benefit always goes to the opponent • Be prepared to have your group ready to play when your group is up next • If only two paddles are ahead of you feel free to add your paddles Play fairly and encourage others to do so. • Competition is one of the joys of sport but should never be an obstacle to having fun • Rotate on and off the court in such a manner that everyone has equal playing time • Announce the score loudly and clearly before serving so that it is known to everyone • Do not intentionally hit the ball at someone in a manner that could cause injury • Do not take advantage of an opposing team whose skill level may be lower by running the score up. One-sided games can be used to practice different shots. • Do not celebrate points excessively or degrade the opposition when they miss a shot • Violations of the Code of Conduct can result in a suspension from the pickleball program and/or a cancellation of a player’s membership. • How do you report a violation? Go to Play@PickleU.com and log a concern. Please be specific with name, date, time and offense. Everyone is expected to know, abide by and stay updated and informed as to PBU’s Code of conduct and general Rules for Participation. They are not comprehensively nor specifically written down. They are interpreted and applied with civility and common sense. From time to time PBU may issue written updates, clarifications or modifications to them, through the PBU website. Everyone who is a member/participant/licensee is charged with knowledge of their contents and is required to know them and to stay updated, current and informed. A participant/member/licensee represent they have read, understand, know and will keep updated about the Code of Conduct and Rules of Play and Participation of PBU, even if they haven’t actually read them.
